Planning a Wedding: Let’s Talk Color

Let me start off by saying, who doesn’t love Pantone? It’s literally a company that creates color. Each year they come out with a new trendy color and this year did not disappoint. The color for 2017 is Greenery. Pantone describes it as ‘a fresh and zesty yellow-green shade that evokes the first days of spring when nature’s greens revive, restore and renew. Illustrative of flourishing foliage and the lushness of the great outdoors, the fortifying attributes of Greenery signals consumers to take a deep breath, oxygenate and reinvigorate.’

I was already planning on using greens and pinks in my wedding and using Pantone’s colors have made it really easy to create a mood board.

Here are my steps for creating a color mood board for your wedding, or anything else!

Step 1: Figure out what you like

I started looking at a ton of images from wedding blogs, Google, and Pinterest. I saved the images I liked best along the way. It’s easier then to see color and style trends that your leaning towards. You can choose to save these to your computer or a general Pinterest board.

Step 2: Organize and consolidate your ideas

After I looked at the images I saved, I grouped the images into folders. I mostly did this by color since all of my images generally followed the same style. If you haven’t decided on a style yet  (romantic, rustic, etc.) you may decide to group them that way.

Step 3: Identify color trends

Pantone has this great app, Pantone Studio, that you can use to identify colors in your photos. Usually your palette will be made up of two to three colors. With varying hues and shades.

Step 4: Create your board!

You may chose to do this in a variety of ways. I compiled my pictures and colors in Illustrator so I could print them out. You can also physically collect pictures from magazines and tape them to a piece of paper. Another great option is to make a Pinterest board.
